A soil test is not required to plant food plots.

However, it is an important step to ensure quality growth from your plants, by running a soil test you will know how much Fertilizer or Lyme is needed to create the best possible soil for your food plot to thrive.

2 Mineral Fountain

2.1 Is there a specific species of tree that works best for mineral fountains?

It makes no difference in the attractiveness the type of tree used for a mineral fountain. The only benefit would be spruce, pine and any softwood tree like a bass would certainly absorb the mineral much better, that being said the intent is for the mineral to run down the tree for the deer to lick off as it is in liquid form, once it hits the ground it absorbs into the dirt and they will eat it from there as well.

The best thing you can do is put your fountain or any mineral source where there are deer already and in good cover with a water source nearby.
